چکیده

Abstract – This paper presents a theoretical framework of imaging the solidification of molten metal inside a pipe by eddy currents. A complete mathematical model is developed which reveals the relationship between the solidification inside the pipe and the scattered field measurable outside the pipe. This model is then exploited to develop a numerical algorithm which is able to quickly reconstruct the geometry of the solidification based on the measured scattered field intensity. This framework not only appears to be the first of its kinds from the metallurgical point of view, but also involves some novel development from the point of view of electromagnetic computations, which includes in particular the Green functions in multiple layered media.

Imaging the solidification of molten metal by eddy currents: I

This paper presents an eddy-current-based technique for imaging the solidification of molten metal inside a metal pipe. This technique is motivated by the fact that the ac (alternating current) impedance seen from a solenoid placed outside the pipe is dependent on the distribution of the solidification inside the pipe provided that the ac frequency is properly chosen and the overall thickness o...

Employing dual frequency phase sensitive demodulation technique to improve the accuracy of voltage measurement in magnetic induction tomography and designing a labratoary prototype

Magnetic induction tomography (MIT) is a promising modality for noninvasive imaging due to its contactless technology. Being a non-contact safe imaging technique, MIT has been an appropriate method in compare to other electrical tomography. In this imaging method, a primary magnetic field is applied by excitation coils to induce eddy currents in the material to be studied and a secondary magnet...

Imaging the solidification of molten metal by eddy currents: II

This is the second part of two sister papers. The first paper developed an algorithm for imaging the solidification of molten metal inside a pipe where the conductivity of the metal inside the pipe was assumed to vary continuously (i.e., no clear boundary between the solid and the melt). Due to this nature, the algorithm shown in the first paper involves computationally expensive volume integra...

Magnetoacoustic Tomography with Magnetic Stimulation (MAT-MS)

We have proposed a new imaging modality, magnetoacoustic tomography with magnetic stimulation (MAT-MS) to image the electrical impedance distribution. In this paper we report out pilot experimental study. In MAT-MS, the tissue is put in a static magnetic field and a pulsed ( s μ ) magnetic field. The pulsed magnetic field induces eddy current in the tissue. Consequently, the tissue will emit ul...

Evaluation of Metal Artifact Reduction software in Computed Tomography

Introduction: The image quality of computed tomography (CT) can be seriously lowered by metal implants of patients. These implants are known to exert a significant impact on diagnostic accuracy due to artifacts. The current study aimed to assess the usefulness of Metal Artifact Reduction (MAR) software in the reduction of metal artifacts, in comparison to iterative rec...
